- optical-grade crystal glass
Hand-cut crystal is built to last generations—but only if you treat it right. Here’s everything you need to know about caring for your Cristamor glasses.
Washing: Hand Wash Only
This is the golden rule. Dishwasher detergents are highly alkaline and will gradually etch the crystal surface, dulling those precisely cut facets over time. The heat cycle can also cause thermal shock, leading to microscopic cracks.
Instead, wash each glass by hand with mild dish soap and warm (not hot) water. Use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can scratch the polished surface.
Drying: Air is Fine, Cloth is Better
While air-drying is safe, hand-drying with a lint-free cloth prevents water spots and keeps the crystal sparkling. Hold the glass by the bowl, not the stem or base, to avoid putting stress on structural joints.
Storage: Room Temperature, Upright
Store your glasses upright in a cabinet away from direct sunlight. Extreme temperature changes are crystal’s biggest enemy—never move a glass from the refrigerator to a warm room, or vice versa. If you chill your glasses, let them warm gradually.
What to Avoid
Besides dishwashers, there are a few crystal enemies to watch for: boiling water, microwave ovens, and sudden temperature changes. Our glasses are designed for spirits and cold beverages. If you’re serving warm drinks, pre-warm the glass gradually with warm (not hot) water first.
The Long View
With proper care, hand-cut crystal actually improves with age. The facets develop a subtle softness that many collectors find more beautiful than the factory finish. These are glasses meant to be passed down—not replaced.
Think of your Cristamor glasses like good kitchen knives: cared for properly, they’ll serve you for decades. Neglected, they’ll lose their edge. The choice is yours.
