The Cut’s Story
The ancient Greeks had a solution for drinking too much: amethyst. The word itself means “not drunk” — a-methystos — and they carved wine cups from the purple stone believing it kept the drinker clear-headed. Dionysus, the god of wine, wept amethyst tears in the legend; the stone was his apology. Two thousand years later, we can’t verify the sobriety claim, but the psychology was sound: a cup beautiful enough makes you slow down and notice — and noticing is half of moderation. This glass cuts the amethyst’s royal purple into star-lattice crystal, a quiet wink at the oldest drinking accessory superstition in the Western world. It won’t keep you sober. It will keep you paying attention.
Craft & Material
Hand-cut crystal in deep amethyst purple with star-lattice geometry. The purple saturates at the base and opens at the rim — like the actual gemstone, which darkens at its heart.
A Gift That Means Something
Birthstone of February. The traditional gift for the person who has everything — and the funny, affectionate gift for the friend who doesn’t know when to stop.
FAQ
What does amethyst symbolize? Clarity, calm, and (per the Greeks) sobriety. It’s February’s birthstone and the anniversary stone for the 6th year.
Will it really keep me sober? No — and the Greeks probably knew that too. But a glass this pretty does slow the drinking down. Blame them.
Each pattern is drawn by hand, mapping how light will travel through every facet.
Diamond wheels carve the primary facets. One wrong angle and the piece is lost.
Each facet is refined by hand. Depth, edge, angle - adjusted until geometry becomes art.
Progressive abrasives bring out optical clarity. Light passes through without distortion.
