The West has always told one story about the phoenix, and it never gets old: the fire isn’t the ending. Greek historians wrote of a bird that built its own pyre and walked out the other side brighter; Russian fairy tales made the Firebird the prize that only the worthy could hold; every generation since has borrowed the metaphor for comebacks, rebuilds, and second acts. This glass cuts that bird at the moment of decision — wings up, flames becoming feathers — in amber crystal that glows like the story’s end and beginning at once. (Its Eastern cousin, the hō-ō of our Kyoto Collection, brings the same wing to a different philosophy: peace, not pyre. True collectors hold both.)
