The Pattern’s Story
Every izakaya counter in Japan has one: the maneki neko, one paw raised, beckoning with a patience that outlasts decades. The oldest telling goes back to Edo-era Tokyo, when a temple cat raised its paw to call a traveling lord out of a storm’s path — and saved his life. Today the right paw draws money, the left draws people, and no one argues with a symbol that has worked for four hundred years. Deep blue crystal — the color tradition assigns to protection — carries this little cat and his raised paw, cut so he catches the light every time you lift the glass. He doesn’t drink. He just makes sure good things keep arriving.
